From 6 to 49 Strings in Washington, DC

Saturday, April 28th, 2018 at 7:30pm Casa Italiana Sociocultural Center will host a very special event dedicated to music and to the guitar world in particular. The headquarters of the Italian community in Washington DC at 3rd Street NW, is going to open its doors for the solo concert “From 6 to 49 strings”, with the Italian musician Paolo Schianchi, who was born in Parma (the Italian music capital) and has recently moved to the Nation’s Capital.

Paolo Schianchi is an extraordinary musician and performer, who is able to master all the main varieties of the guitar starting from the Renaissance lute, up to experimental instruments that he personally designed and built. He has recently been awarded with an EB-1 Visa (the so-called “Einstein Visa”), usually granted to artists with “extraordinary abilities”.

Red Canzian (bass player of the longest-standing Italian band “I Pooh”), Charlie Rapino (former artistic director at Sony Universal in London), Jim Donovan (multi-platinum recording artist who collaborated with such artists as Carlos Santana, Led Zeppelin, Sting), and Alberto Radius (guitar player in the most beautiful songs by the Italian songwriter Lucio Battisti) are just some of the artists and managers in the music field that described Paolo Schianchi as one of the best guitarists they have ever witnessed.
He has recently been invited on the most popular talent show on Italian television (broadcasted on prime time on “Canale 5”), and his performance hit the peak of the audience (over 6 millions people watching). Paolo recently gave a TED Talk in Rome. Tese talks are part of an international network of conferences that host the most influential speakers and experts worldwide.

At Casa Italiana Paolo will reprise the concert he gave on tour in the US last spring, collecting unanimous appraisal everywhere he had the chance to perform.
“From 6 to 49 strings” will celebrate the guitar, its history, its most beloved varieties, the beauty of its repertoire, and it will capture the audience’s attention in the end with the showcase of a mesmerizing guitar which is unique in the world. It’s a 49- string guitar designed by Paolo and built from the Argentinian luthier Carlos Roberto Michelutti. Paolo Schianchi will take the audience by hand and guide it through the music from Bach to The Beatles, through the stories of the composers of some of the most beautiful songs from the guitar repertoire, in classical music, jazz, blues, pop, and even experimental music.

Paolo is also the creator and director of the Innovatory of Music, an international project dedicated to young Italian and American music talents. The program has the patronage of the City of Parma (Italian Culture Capital for 2020), and it is organized in collaboration with some American institutions. The Innovatory of Music is an exciting opportunity to enhance musical skills and also to discover and explore the beauty of Italy.

Light refreshment will be offered before the concert, starting at 6:30pm.
The concert will start at 7:30pm.
Tickets can be purchased in advance ($20) at Casa Italiana and online at https://49strings.eventbrite.com.
